About I LoveBG.Info

Here are some reasons why I love Bulgaria

- It reminds me of Quebec, my favorite place in the world.

- The nature

- The people: Sincere, Helpful, Down to earth, just enough of them speak English, lots of opportunities, increasing tourism, still almost undiscovered places, unspoiled people and places

- The small, family owned shops.

- Nice balance between old and new

- No McDonalds (at least not in Veliko Tarnovo)

- It is closer to France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Estonia than Australia, Canada or South America

a new member of the European Union

- Prices are lower than in Western Europe

- There are lots of chances to help people and I like helping

About Me

My name is Steve Hein. I have travelled around the world for the past 10 years or so. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite places. In the "About I Love BG.Info" section I said I loved Quebec and that Bulgaria reminds me of Quebec, but here there are a few more people who speak English, so it makes it easier to get things done

Volunteer Work

I'd like to help set up some volunteer programs here. Some of my ideas are

- Orphanages. I have heard that the orphanages here are very bad. You can imagine this considering the past of the country. My ideas include teaching English and other languages, spending time with the chilren, listening to them (with the help of Bulgarians), getting high school and university students involved. Setting up something like a Big Brother/Big Sister program, setting up a program where backpackers and tourists would visit the children and give donations. Bringing attention to the issue.

- Start an educational campaign in the schools about the problems with casinos and gambling.

- Setting up a teen suicide prevention support group made up primarily of teens and university students.

- An interchange program between backpackers and the tourism high school and university tourism department.
